Support to Boarding Houses Project

Working together with local organizations and concerned community members, a large part of our work involves identifying those boarding houses and orphanages which currently exist but which are under-funded.

Despite having few resources themselves, many people in refugee camps have established their home as a safe place of unaccompanied minors and orphans seeking an education. Although they aren’t able to provide much, they do the best they can for the children they support.

After visiting these boarding houses and discussing the situation with the local caretakers, we work together on a plan of action to determine the best way to support their work.

When we have been successful in securing funding for a boarding house, then we begin working together with their staff to make improvements there. Our focus is on financial responsibility and improvements in the welfare of children.

In order to monitor and help improve the welfare of the children, we work closely with them throughout the year. Some of our projects include a big brother/ big sister program with a local school and photography training. Photographs from the children are part of the way we build a connection between donors and the boarding houses that they support, a connection we feel is important to helping inform those abroad about the situation on the border.
